Job summary

Charter Manufacturing is seeking a Scrap Crane Operator to support yard operations by sorting scrap, loading trucks and balers, and operating E-crane or crawler cranes. The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and efficient material flow at the Niles location.

Field tasks include crane movement, equipment relocation, and participation in continuous improvement across yard operations. A high school diploma or GED is required, with GEDWorks available for education support.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience operating mobile or crawler cranes (Liebherr, Sennebogen or Link-Belt).
• Knowledge of scrap metal types and grading.
• Strong self-motivation and ability to work independently.
• Basic math, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Team-oriented mindset with willingness to support others.
• Ability to follow and communicate instructions clearly.
• High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Sort scrap materials by type and quality.
• Operate E-crane or crawler crane to load trucks, railcars, and balers.
• Move crane equipment throughout the yard as needed.
• Maintain material flow by cleaning out scrap spreads.
• Follow safety procedures and contribute to a team-focused environment.
• Support continuous improvement efforts across yard operations.
