Job summary

IT Engagements seeks a Scientist II - Analytical to join the Medicines team in San Diego, CA. The role focuses on non-viral nucleic acid delivery tools for in vivo genome editing and gene therapy, analyzing lipid nanoparticle-based pharmaceuticals.

You will develop methods (HPLC/BLI) for LNPs, maintain detailed data records, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance projects. A 5+ year background in pharmaceutical sciences is required.

Qualifications

• Master's or Bachelor's degree in pharmaceutical sciences, bioengineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, or related scientific discipline.
• Experience developing methods in gradient-elution HPLC modalities such as RP, IPRP, or AEX.
• Experience with BLI or SPR is highly desirable.
• Experience with LCMS is desirable.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce consistent results and communicate them to the team.
• Ability to be a team player, multitask and work on multiple projects in a collaborative environment.
• Proficiency in MS Excel; experience with Prism and JMP desirable.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Work at the direction of Analytical scientists to analyze lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) encapsulating nucleic acids and LNP components using HPLC and BLI.
• Develop methods to characterize LNPs and LNP components.
• Establish relationships between physiochemical characteristics of experimental nanoparticle formulations and their efficacy and safety.
• Maintain detailed records of analytical data.
• Interface directly with other functional teams.
• Share responsibility for basic lab management activities (supply ordering, instrument calibration, maintaining schedules).

Position Summary: Client is searching for an outstanding Scientist II to join the Medicines team in San Diego, CA. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with new non-viral nucleic acid delivery tools for in vivo genome editing and gene therapy applications. This person will be engaged in the analysis of novel lipid nanoparticle-based pharmaceuticals.

Responsibilities May Include But Are Not Limited To

• Work at the direction of Analytical scientists to analyze lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) encapsulating nucleic acids and LNP components using HPLC and Biolayer Interferometry (BLI)
• Develop methods to characterize LNPs and LNP components
• Establish relationships between physiochemical characteristics of experimental nanoparticle formulations and their efficacy and safety
• Maintain detailed records of analytical data
• Interface directly with other functional teams
• Share responsibility for basic lab management activities (supply ordering, instrument calibration, maintaining schedules)

Requirements, Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Master's or Bachelor's degree with 5+ years experience in pharmaceutical sciences, bioengineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, or related scientific discipline (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).
• Experience developing methods in gradient-elution HPLC modalities such as RP, IPRP, or AEX is required
• Experience with BLI or Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) is highly desirable
• Experience with LCMS is desirable
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce consistent results and effectively communicate them to the team
• Ability to be a team player, multitask and work on multiple projects at once, and excel in a collaborative work environment.
• Proficiency at MS Excel is required; prior experience with advanced analytical software (Prism, JMP) is desirable
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
