Job summary

Montgomery Public Schools is seeking a Transportation & Safety Coordinator for a part-time role (20 hours/week) to support transportation operations and school safety across district campuses.

You will coordinate routes, communicate with families and vendors, ensure CDL compliance, assist with safety drills and incident documentation, and work closely with the Chief Operations Officer to improve efficiency and service quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in transportation, logistics, business administration, education, public administration, or related field required.
• 2-3 years of experience in student transportation or related field preferred.
• Must possess or obtain CDL with appropriate passenger and school bus endorsements.
• Must meet ALSDE pupil transportation requirements, including training and certifications.
• Experience with school bus routing, scheduling, vendors, route management, and family/school customer service preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate day-to-day transportation operations across three campuses.
• Liaise between district, transportation provider, and families.
• Monitor routes, on-time service, capacity, and driver coverage.
• Troubleshoot transportation issues and coordinate timely solutions.
• Coordinate student routes, stops, schedules, ridership, and route changes.
• Monitor route capacity and adjust based on enrollment and needs.
• Assist with annual route planning and ongoing improvements to efficiency, safety, and cost.
• Maintain transportation data and documentation for planning.
• Provide professional customer service to parents/guardians regarding transportation.
• Coordinate communication among families, school staff, drivers, and providers.
• Support delays, route changes, substitutions, closures, and updates.
• Identify recurring concerns and recommend system-level solutions.
• Coordinate transportation for field trips, athletics, and events.
• Confirm schedules, vehicle availability, locations, costs, and requirements.
• Maintain an organized transportation calendar.
• Review trip documentation and invoices as assigned.
• Maintain CDL and required certifications, endorsements, and training.
• Complete ALSDE compliance activities and ongoing education.
• Monitor safety concerns and assist with inspections and records.
• Coordinate safety drills and bus incidents with principals and providers.
• Support safety planning, drills, and documentation across campuses.
• Develop procedures and tools to strengthen transportation and safety operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the COO.
