Job summary

Portage Public Schools is seeking a Building Technician for Edustaff responsibilities in Portage, MI. The role focuses on providing on-site technology support in school buildings, maintaining hardware, and assisting staff and students in using technology.

The position requires a two-year technical degree or equivalent, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently. A+ certification or progress toward it within six months is preferred.

Qualifications

• Two-year technical degree or equivalent in technical training.
• Diagnostic, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and communication skills.
• Ability to relate/communicate well with all authority levels, skill levels, and personality types.
• Ability to work independently without direct supervision
• Strong organizational skills
• A+ certification or commit to earning within 6 months of hire date.
• Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with district staff and the public.
• Ability to assume responsibility, display initiative, and exercise good judgment.
• Proficient computer and document skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a first-line resource for technology used throughout the building(s).
• Assist Instructional Coach(es) with staff training sessions and student training in computers and software.
• Maintain computer hardware by diagnosing, repairing, and replacing components on site or via parts transport.
• Diagnose software problems and update software to fix bugs and apply patches.
• Install and configure staff computers and peripherals including printers and projectors.
• Assist in developing, testing, documenting, and deploying system images.
• Support the communication systems deployed within buildings.
• Assist with asset tracking and yearly inventory.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor or building administrator(s).
