Department Summary

Housed in the Lucas College and Graduate School of Business of San José State University, the School of Information Systems and Technology (SISTech) hosts the Management Information Systems (MIS) undergraduate concentration within the Business major. The MIS program prepares students to excel professionally and contribute to the knowledge‑in‑formation economy and the digital transformation era of the 21st century in Silicon Valley and beyond. The school is distinguished by an award‑winning team of instructors, spanning academic research and industry experience, and our curriculum reflects best practice recommendations of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) with many innovative enhancements.

Brief Description Of Duties
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in areas such as Introduction to Business Systems, Introduction to MIS, Database Management, Networking, Project Management, Systems Analysis and Design, Data Analytics, Cyber Risk Management, Programming, Artificial Intelligence, or related topics.
  • Conduct weekly office hours and provide academic support to students.
  • Create, evaluate, and grade exams and assignments.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and offer input on curriculum decisions.
  • Maintain course materials in the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) and ensure timely delivery of all scheduled classes, whether asynchronous, synchronous, bic­chronous, in‑person, or hybrid.
  • For online teaching positions, complete the required online orientation module.
Other Duties
  • Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a diverse student population, including considerations of age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation, through inclusive course materials and teaching strategies.
  • Organize classes within the Canvas LMS and meet all scheduled session times.
Required Qualifications
  • Doctoral Degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, or at least three years of professional experience in a related field, or equivalent qualification through education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach in one or more of the specified areas listed above.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population, gained through cross‑cultural study, training, teaching, or comparable experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in training or teaching.
  • Doctoral degree in a related field.
Compensation

Compensation is determined by qualifications and experience. Salary ranges are based on the university faculty salary schedule and are prorated for part‑time appointments.

Employment Conditions
  • Faculty employees must complete CSU employee training as assigned and required, including topics such as preventing discrimination and harassment, gender equity, Title IX, and health and safety.
  • Faculty members in this position will be subject to ongoing review for designation as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and must report Clery incidents per university policy.
  • Employment is contingent on proof of eligibility to work in the United States, completion of a background check, and compliance with university policies.
