Job summary

Eagle Valley Middle School in Colorado seeks a Cook to prepare school lunches, manage portions and assist with food service operations. The role requires cleaning, food safety adherence, and coordinating with the Cafeteria Manager to meet service times and guidelines.

Qualified candidates will have 6 months of large-quantity food experience, strong communication skills, and basic computer/ POS proficiency. This full-time position offers benefits and a supportive educational environment.

Qualifications

• 6 months experience working with large quantities of food.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to read, write, understand and follow written and verbal calculations as normally acquired through completion of high school diploma/GED.
• Ability to operate a computer.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a high standard of sanitation in all practices at work, including food handling and storage.
• Maintain a clean kitchen and lunchroom environment.
• Measure, weigh and prepare ingredients according to recipes approved by state and USDA guidelines.
• Take food temperatures to ensure microbiological safety.
• Ensure menu compliance with Nutritional Services Director and Colorado DOE directives.
• Regulate portions according to NSLP standards.
• Plan daily production schedules to ensure timely service and minimize waste.
• Operate the POS system in the absence of the cafeteria manager, with recipe adjustments as needed.
• Collect data for NSLP and Food Service Director as required.
• Be flexible with work location and schedule.
• Operate and maintain kitchen equipment (ovens, grills, toasters, processors, slicers, dishwashers, steamers).
• Lift and carry boxes when orders arrive; two weeks of orders typically received.
• Be cost-conscious with supplies and containers.
• Wash, dry, fold and store towels and aprons.
• Multitask under time constraints.
• Be courteous to students, teachers, parents and coworkers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
