Job summary

Petersburg City Public Schools is seeking a Transportation Mechanic to service and repair the mechanical systems of heavy and light vehicles used by the school division, including buses, cars, vans and utilities. You will diagnose issues, perform preventive maintenance, and ensure safety standards are met.

Required qualifications include a High school diploma, 21+ years of age, and a valid CDL with air brake, passenger and school bus endorsements or equivalent license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application.
• Valid CDL with air brake, passenger and school bus endorsements required to drive a school bus; not always needed to apply.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, driveline and brakes on school vehicles.
• Perform preventive maintenance on gasoline, diesel, and propane vehicles.
• Inspect and repair brake systems, electrical, and HVAC components.
• Respond to emergency road calls and coordinate with the bus garage.
• Train and supervise automotive staff as needed.
