Job summary

Harford County Public Schools seeks a Custodian I for Fountain Green Elementary School. This 12-month, full-time position covers shift 2, with duties across cleaning, maintenance, and upkeep of facilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Minimum ninth grade education required (If high school diploma is not presented, testing will be conducted to assess ability to read, understand, and apply written instructions, including work procedures, product labels, material safety data sheets, and equipment instruction manuals).
• One year of experience in a custodial, mechanical trade or related area, preferred.
• Physically able to perform the essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodations, including lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders over fifteen feet, and use of lifts, scaffolding, and other equipment.
• Individuals may be required to hold and maintain a valid driver’s license to carry out essential functions.

Responsibilities

• Selects appropriate equipment and sweeps and cleans floors in shops, classrooms, offices, corridors and other areas.
• Uses custodial equipment such as brooms, mops, vacuums, buffers, and related supplies.
• Collects and disposes of trash and garbage.
• Unloads supplies and stores them properly.
• Lifts and moves furniture and equipment up to 50 pounds.
• Maintains lavatories and keeps them sanitary.
• Cleans windows, fixtures, and high areas with ladders or scaffolding.
• Cleans desks, chairs, tables, and classroom equipment.
• Assists cafeteria staff with lifting and deliveries.
• Assists in snow removal as directed.
• Performs lawn and playground maintenance.
• Responds during emergencies and other duties as assigned.
