Job summary

Harford County Public Schools is seeking a Custodian I for Youth’s Benefit Elementary School to perform routine cleaning, maintenance, and upkeep of buildings, grounds, and equipment. The role includes operating standard custodial equipment, trash disposal, and assisting with snow removal and floor care.

Qualifying candidates should have a high school diploma or GED (or equivalent), at least ninth grade reading ability, and ideally one year of custodial experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Minimum ninth grade education required and ability to read and understand written instructions.
• One year of custodial or related experience preferred.
• Physically able to perform essential functions, including lifting up to 50 pounds and climbing ladders or using lifts.
• May be required to hold and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Selects equipment and sweeps/cleans floors in classrooms, offices, and corridors.
• Uses custodial tools such as brooms, mops, buffers, vacuums, and floor finish.
• Collects and disposes of trash and moves supplies to storage areas.
• Maintains cleanliness of lavatories and washes fixtures and windows.
• Assists in snow removal, lawn and playground maintenance, and emergency responses.
