Job summary

Seattle Public Schools is seeking an experienced kitchen worker to support meal preparation, service, and cleanup under the Kitchen Manager. The role may involve guiding staff during busy periods and maintaining accurate records and inventories.

Responsibilities include following menus and safety standards, ensuring nutritious, cost-effective meals, and promoting school nutrition programs. The position requires reliability, teamwork, and ability to adapt to school schedules.

Qualifications

• One year experience in commercial or institutional food preparation.
• Ability to utilize fundamentals of meal preparation.
• Skills to plan menus and adjust recipes.
• Competency to complete and maintain all records as requested and substitute as needed.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve attractive, high quality meals following standardized procedures and work schedules.
• Complete tasks within time allocated.
• Comply with safety and sanitation procedures.
• Assist in cleaning kitchen, equipment, and storeroom as scheduled.
• Assist in maintaining food and supply inventories.
• May direct or assist staff during emergencies or busy periods.
• Maintain daily records and reports for Kitchen Manager.
• Collect money and account for meals served as required.
• Maintain plate counts for meals served.
• Promote Culinary Services programs to increase meal participation.
• Assist staff in promoting proper nutrition.
