Sur La Table in Austin, TX is seeking a Chef Instructor, Savory to lead savory cooking classes and act as the in-store expert for culinary techniques. You will deliver hands-on instruction, follow recipes and game plans, and inspire customers while supporting store sales goals.

The role emphasizes classroom-style teaching, product knowledge, and customer engagement, with part-time, in-store hours including evenings and weekends. A culinary foundation and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age or older at time of employment.
• A degree in culinary arts is preferred; however extensive culinary experience and demonstrated technical proficiency may substitute for formal education.
• 1–2 years of kitchen operations experience.
• Valid Food Manager Certification.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Passion for community engagement and providing exceptional customer experiences.

Responsibilities

• Represent Sur La Table’s brand and culture by creating memorable, educational experiences that inspire repeat visits and customer loyalty.
• Deliver in-store culinary experiences focused on savory cooking classes that reflect the company’s passion for food, teaching, and high standards.
• Communicate technical cooking concepts in a clear, encouraging manner.
• Stay current on products, engage in training, and seek out additional resources.
• Drive sales by upholding kitchen standards and encouraging class sign-ups and product usage in classes.
• Ensure high enrollment and positive guest feedback to meet class revenue goals.
• Deliver exceptional classes that engage guests and support sales goals.
• Assist in class setup and breakdown, mise en place, ingredient prep, and post-class cleanup.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of dishes and equipment during sessions.
• Restock, organize, and maintain kitchen supplies and tools for store readiness.
• Ensure compliance with food safety standards and sanitation regulations.
• Handle tools, ingredients, and equipment safely to ensure a safe work environment.
• Maintain inventory levels, minimize shrink, and control culinary expenses.
• Comply with liquor/wine/beer regulations when applicable and age restrictions.
• Adhere to wage and hour laws and SLT SOPs.
• Communicate effectively with team and customers.
