Job summary

Peraton is seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead a team delivering secure, scalable satellite ground communications software. You will guide architecture, development, and operations across backend Python services and frontend components, while managing talent and ensuring alignment with government mission requirements.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience in software engineering or management.
• Minimum Secret clearance required and maintainable.
• Proficient in Python backend and API development with microservice patterns.
• Experience with relational databases, especially PostgreSQL, and async messaging like Kafka.
• Strong frontend skills with TypeScript, Vite, and component-based architecture.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD, automated testing, and RBAC/Zero Trust security.

Responsibilities

• Drive end-to-end cloud-native architecture for multi-tenant AWS platforms.
• Contribute to full-stack development with code reviews and mentoring.
• Oversee staffing, performance reviews, and career development.
• Translate requirements into architectures, specs, and priorities.
• Collaborate with MBSE, cybersecurity, and test teams for traceability.
• Lead backend development using Python and APIs; guide data-processing services.
• Design reusable frontend components and scalable UI.
• Implement secure authentication and RBAC/JWT-based access control.
• Coordinate CI/CD, DevSecOps, and production-support activities.
• Identify risks and mitigation steps for project success.
• Evaluate new technologies for secure government missions.
• Address complex issues in satellite communications ground systems.
