Job summary

BMSS Advisors & CPAs is seeking an experienced Sales & Use Tax Manager to join our State & Local Tax practice in Mississippi. You will partner with clients across industries to navigate multistate sales and use tax compliance, planning, and controversy matters.

As a trusted advisor, you’ll manage risk, identify opportunities, and lead a team in a dynamic tax environment, mentoring staff and supporting growth of the SALT practice.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5+ years of sales and use tax experience in public accounting or related settings.
• Strong technical knowledge of multistate sales and use tax laws and compliance.
• Experience managing audits, VDAs, and state/local controversy matters.
• Strong tax research skills using tax databases and software.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to explain complex concepts.
• Demonstrated project management and ability to lead teams.
• Experience supervising and mentoring staff; business development skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead multistate sales and use tax compliance engagements across jurisdictions.
• Advise clients on nexus, taxability, transaction structuring, and planning.
• Manage audits, VDAs, and controversy matters with authorities.
• Conduct voluntary disclosures, refund studies, and recovery reviews.
• Evaluate tax implications of mergers, acquisitions, and restructurings.
• Research evolving laws and communicate impacts to clients and team.
• Provide practical solutions to indirect tax challenges.
• Develop proposals, presentations, and thought leadership content.
• Build client relationships and identify advisory opportunities.
• Mentor associates and senior staff; support their growth.
• Collaborate with leadership to grow the SALT practice.
