Job summary

KPMG LLP is seeking a Manager to join our State and Local Tax (SALT) practice in the United States. The role involves advising multi-state clients on income, franchise, sales and use tax issues and coordinating cross-functional teams.

You will review returns, draft technical memoranda, and assist with state tax controversies while supporting auditors and developing staff. A CPA/EA/JD/LLM or MTX credential is required or planned within the initial employment period.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of recent experience performing tax research and preparing/reviewing state returns for various entity types
• Licensed CPA, EA, JD/LLM or MTX, with time allowed to obtain at least one credential if not possessed at hire
• Ability to foster relationships internally and with clients
• Strong writing, compliance, communication, management and tax research skills
• Comfort working in a high-energy team environment

Responsibilities

• Assist multi-state companies with state and local tax issues including compliance, advising, planning, structuring and controversies
• Review information presented on state income tax returns before, during and after preparation
• Research and draft technical memoranda or slide decks on income, franchise, sales and use tax and other SALT questions
• Aid tax controversies including hearings, protests and client discussions with auditors
• Support audit teams with review and analysis of state tax items and mentor staff
