"Our leaders have always encouraged us to try new approaches and learn by experimentation. The biggest learning through this was that persistence and calculated risks, pay off."

Opening in 2027, The Standard, Lisbon marks our long-anticipated arrival in one of Europe’s most charismatic capitals. Set within the historic Palácio Santa Clara, overlooking Alfama and the Tagus River, the hotel brings The Standard’s signature blend of bold design, culture and unconventional hospitality to the heart of Lisbon.

Reimagined by architect Samuel Torres de Carvalho, with playful and distinctive interiors by Jaime Hayon, the property combines centuries of history with a fresh, contemporary spirit. Featuring 170 guestrooms, 24 long-stay apartments, vibrant dining and bar experiences, a pool, spa and rooftop terrace, The Standard, Lisbon is set to become one of the city's most exciting new destinations.

Ever wondered what it takes to bring a brand-new hotel to life? Here's your chance to find out. As we gear up for our highly anticipated launch, we're looking for a Sales & Events Intern who's ready to bring fresh energy, get involved and help us create something extraordinary. From building relationships with international travel partners to helping bring unforgettable events to life, this is your opportunity to experience the commercial side of hospitality at one of the most exciting moments in a hotel's journey.

Your role

As our Sales & Events Intern, you'll be joining us at one of the most exciting moments in a hotel's journey: the countdown to opening. Working alongside our Sales & Events team, you'll gain first-hand experience of how a brand-new lifestyle hotel is introduced to the market, how commercial relationships are developed and how extraordinary events come together.

You'll be involved in a wide range of pre-opening activities, supporting our efforts to position The Standard, Lisbon as one of the city's most exciting destinations for leisure travellers, corporate clients, meetings, incentives and social events.

On the Sales side, you'll help with preparing proposals and presentations, researching potential clients and markets, maintaining our CRM database, coordinating site inspections and supporting relationships with travel agencies, corporate accounts and international partners. You'll also gain exposure to sales strategies, business development, luxury travel networks and the exciting world of international hospitality sales.

On the Events side, you'll support the planning and coordination of meetings, corporate gatherings, private dinners and special celebrations. From responding to enquiries and preparing event proposals to coordinating with our Food & Beverage and Operations teams, you'll discover what it takes to turn a client's vision into a memorable experience.

And once our doors open, you'll have the opportunity to see all that preparation come to life, welcoming clients for site inspections, supporting events and experiencing first-hand how a successful hotel commercial operation works.

This isn't your typical internship. You'll experience the excitement, challenges and opportunities of launching a brand-new hotel, work alongside experienced hospitality professionals and gain exposure to both the strategic and creative sides of Sales & Events.

We're looking for someone with personality, curiosity and enthusiasm. Someone who enjoys connecting with people, has an eye for detail, loves a good challenge and isn't afraid to share ideas or roll up their sleeves. After all, we're anything but standard.

Qualifications

Do you StandOut and have what it takes to be our Sales & Events Intern at The Standard, Lisbon?

Previous experience in hotel sales or events isn't essential. We're looking for someone with a genuine passion for hospitality, a commercial mindset and an eagerness to learn.

In addition, the ideal candidate will be anything but standard…

  • Be studying Hospitality Management, Tourism or a related discipline, ideally seeking an internship as part of their academic programme
  • Have a genuine interest in Sales, Events, business development and lifestyle hospitality
  • Be naturally warm, confident and comfortable connecting with people from different backgrounds and cultures
  • Have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with an interest in building professional relationships
  • Bring creativity, curiosity, enthusiasm and a proactive, hands-on approach
  • Be organised, detail-oriented and comfortable managing multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Have an interest in event planning, luxury travel, destination experiences and international hospitality
  • Be comfortable working with Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint and Excel, and eager to learn hotel systems and CRM platforms
  • Have a good working knowledge of English; additional languages are a plus
  • Be a team player who's eager to learn, contribute ideas and embrace new challenges
  • Have an interest in Lisbon's culture, food, music, art and nightlife
  • Be flexible and willing to support occasional evening or weekend events, in line with the agreed internship programme

Ready to be part of Lisbon most exciting opening?

Not everyone gets to say they helped launch a hotel. And even fewer get to experience what it takes to introduce a brand-new property to the world. This is your chance to be part of the team that puts The Standard, Lisbon on the map, from the first sales pitch and client presentation to the first event and unforgettable guest experience.

All applicants must be eligible to undertake an internship in Portugal. Appropriate documentation confirming eligibility will be required before the internship commences.
