JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Safety Security Officer

DEPARTMENT: Housing and Services-Security

FLSA: Non-Exempt

LOCATION: Brooklyn, NY

SALARY: $19.65

SUMMARY:

Westhab is seeking dedicated and motivated individuals to join our Security Department. The Safety Security Officer is responsible for performing a variety of specialized assignments in a homeless shelter and apartment buildings. Proof of COVID-19 vaccine required.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Ensure safety and security of clients, staff, and property in and around the facility.
2. Make hourly rounds throughout the entire facility; monitor cameras as assigned for surveillance; Check all doors hourly, including fire exits.
3. Interact with and monitor clients; maintain good rapport with clients and encourage clients to comply with facility policy and procedures.
4. Intervene to de-escalate potential crises, domestic violence, and abuse, and document all such situations and interventions.
5. Complete logs, incident reports, and all other required documentation.
6. Monitor traffic at the front desk; handle switchboard and reception area.
7. Provide duties related to fire incidents, evacuation of the building when necessary, and utilizing Fire procedures.
8. Ensure the safety and security of all assigned equipment.
9. Perform other tasks as assigned.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

A high school diploma or GED and prior security experience required. Must have a valid NYS Security License and F-02 certification. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary. Must possess the ability to respond to crises and to follow instructions. Must be able to work flexible shifts, weekends, and overtime required.
