JOB TITLE: Safety Security Officer

FLSA: Non-Exempt

DIVISION: Services – Security

REPORTS TO: Shift Supervisor

LOCATION: Brooklyn, NY

SALARY: $19.25 PER HOUR

SUMMARY:

The Safety Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all clients, staff, and the property around the facility in a 200+ bed men’s homeless shelter. This position reports to the Shift Supervisor and Security Manager of the facility. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Perform daily inspections of all clients’ rooms.
  2. Escort clients to appointments as needed.
  3. Interact with and monitor clients’ behavior, maintaining good rapport by providing excellent customer service. Encourage clients to comply with facility policies and procedures.
  4. Control access at the main entrance by screening all clients and visitors, utilizing magnetometer and x-ray machines to detect and prevent weapons from entering the site.
  5. Perform crisis intervention to de-escalate potential crisis situations and document all such situations and interventions.
  6. Make hourly rounds throughout the entire facility, including hallways, stairwells, floors, bathrooms, laundry rooms, kitchen, and office spaces.
  7. Respond to incidents.
  8. Assist with client intakes.
  9. Perform daily pack-ups and logging of client property belonging to AWOL clients.
  10. Store and remove client property once the mandated storage time has expired.
  11. Maintain a clean and organized storage area.
  12. Complete logs, incident reports, and all other required documentation.
  13. Make calls to police, fire department, and other first responders as directed.
  14. Perform administrative and receptionist duties at the operations desk; monitor video surveillance cameras and fire prevention/detection alarm systems.
  15. Provide duties related to fire incidents and evacuation procedures when necessary, utilizing fire protocols.
  16. Ensure the safety and security of all assigned equipment.
  17. Perform other tasks as assigned.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or GED and prior security experience required. Must have NYS Security Guard License, and current 8-hour annual certificate, and Fire Guard License for Shelters (F-02). Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary. Certified in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI). Must be able to work flexible shifts, weekends, and overtime if necessary.
