Job summary

Job description

• Perform work under the supervision of a registered nurse or virtual registered nurse
• Virtually maintain constant direct observation and visualization of identified patients
• Monitor patients' physical, emotional, and mental condition using approved telehealth technology
• Communicate patient status and changes to bedside and virtual nursing teams
• Observe and report behavioral changes
• Document observations in the electronic health record
• Escalate unsafe events via alarms or redirections
• Monitor patients in seclusion and/or restraint
• Collaborate with bedside and virtual nursing staff on patient safety plans of care
• Participate in reviewing work-area activities and processes and assist with continual service improvement
• Comply with regulatory and legal requirements
• Find and order RSO carts when needed
• Make work-station assignments each shift
• Take handoff from bedside nursing staff and share observation instructions with assigned RSOs
• Help bedside teams set up carts, troubleshoot audio/video issues, and discontinue carts
• Perform other related duties incidental to the work

Requirements

• Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent
• In-patient hospital experience preferred
• Enrollment in nursing or medical programs strongly preferred
• Listing on the Nurse Aid Registry of North Carolina preferred; if not met at hire, start the process within 1 year of employment and complete within 2 years
• BLS certification must be maintained/completed by the end of new hire orientation
• CPI certification strongly preferred
• Technology skills
• Basic first aid and CPR knowledge and ability to administer them if needed
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
• Good time management skills
• Good physical strength and stamina
• Knowledge of applicable special procedures, routine patient treatments, sanitation, hygiene, infection control, health and safety precautions, behavioral principles, and responses to stressors
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and hospital staff
• Ability to maintain a sympathetic and understanding attitude toward patients and secure their cooperation
• Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
• Ability to maintain records and prepare reports
• Ability to recognize emergency states and seek appropriate assistance
• Ability to understand, follow, and accurately communicate oral and written instructions
• Ability to apply proper body mechanics and safety
