- Perform work under the supervision of a registered nurse or virtual registered nurse
- Maintain constant direct virtual observation and visualization of identified patients using approved telehealth technology
- Virtually monitor changes in patients' physical, emotional, and mental conditions
- Communicate patient status and changes to bedside and virtual nursing teams
- Observe and report patients' behavioral changes
- Document observations in the electronic health record
- Escalate unsafe events through alarms or redirections
- Monitor patients in seclusion and/or restraint
- Collaborate with bedside and virtual nursing staff on patient safety plans of care
- Participate in reviewing work-area activities and processes and assist with continual service improvement
- Comply with regulatory and legal requirements
- Find and order RSO carts when needed
- Make workstation assignments each shift
- Receive handoff from bedside nursing staff and share observation details with assigned RSO
- Help bedside teams set up carts, troubleshoot audio/video issues, and discontinue carts
Requirements
- Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent
- In-patient hospital experience preferred
- Enrollment in nursing or medical programs strongly preferred
- Listing on the Nurse Aid Registry of North Carolina preferred
- If not meeting the Nurse Aid Registry requirement, must start the process within 1 year of employment and complete it within 2 years
- BLS certification must be maintained/completed by the end of new hire orientation
- CPI certification strongly preferred

- Understanding of basic first aid and CPR, with ability to administer them if needed
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and patient rights
- Good time management skills
- Good physical strength and stamina
- Knowledge of sanitation, personal hygiene, infection control, and basic health and safety precautions in a healthcare environment
- Knowledge of behavioral principles and individual responses to stressors
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and hospital staff
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
- Ability to maintain routine records and prepare reports
- Ability to recognize patients in emergency states and seek appropriate assistance
- Ability to understand, follow, and communicate oral and written instructions accurately
