Job summary

Amazon Robotics is hiring a Hardware Functional Safety Engineer to design safety-relevant controls for robotics and industrial equipment. You will assess hazards, define safety requirements, and guide architecture and verification activities to meet industry standards.

The role requires a BS in electrical engineering and 4+ years in safety standards with electromechanical systems, plus strong communication skills. On-site position with Amazon benefits.

Qualifications

• BS degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
• 4+ years of implementing safety standards experience.
• 4+ years of experience with complex electromechanical systems.
• Demonstrated ability to move seamlessly between levels of abstraction – from system to the nuts and bolts implementation.
• Demonstrated experience applying standards to design in regulated industries.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Specify and guide design controls for robotics and industrial automation equipment in functionally safe products.
• Perform hazard and risk assessments, and safety analyses of robotics and automation equipment.
• Write safety requirement specifications, safety management plans, safety concepts, and safety verification and validation plans.
• Safety requirements definition, safety architectural design, safety detailed design.
• Qualitative and quantitative analysis to ensure SILs and Performance Level targets.
• Develop safety features like safe-rated sensing, stability control, and diagnostics.
• Apply industry standards for development lifecycle and advise developers.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams from concept to production, including testing and certification.
