Job summary

Amazon.com Services LLC is seeking a Hardware Functional Safety Engineer to define and design safety-relevant controls for robotics systems and industrial equipment. The role emphasizes adopting safety principles and industry standards in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include hazard analysis, safety requirement documentation, cross-functional collaboration, and verification planning through to certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• 4+ years of experience with complex electromechanical systems.
• Experience with safety programs from concept through certification/regulatory process.
• Ability to move seamlessly between levels of abstraction – from system to the nuts and bolts implementation.
• Experience in regulated industries applying standards to design and work products.

Responsibilities

• Guide the design of controls for robotics and industrial automation equipment for safe products.
• Perform hazard and risk assessments and safety analyses of robotics equipment.
• Write or review safety requirement specifications and verification plans.
• Apply IEC standards for development lifecycle of robotic control systems.
• Collaborate in interdisciplinary teams from concept to production including prototyping, testing and certification.
• Analyze failure modes of control circuits and identify mitigations and diagnostics.
• Drive projects to closure ensuring manufacturability and regulatory compliance.
• Ensure control systems comply with machinery safety standards (ISO 13849, IEC 62061, IEC 61508, IEC 61496).
