Job summary

Amazon Robotics is seeking a Hardware Functional Safety Engineer to design safety-relevant controls for robotic systems and industrial equipment in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

The role focuses on hazard analysis, safety requirements, and verification across the product lifecycle, with exposure to PLCs, microcontrollers, and FPGA-based safety features. Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams is essential.

Qualifications

• BS degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
• 4+ years of implementing safety standards experience.
• 4+ years of experience with complex electromechanical systems.
• Demonstrated ability to move between system and component level details.

Responsibilities

• Specifying and guiding the design controls for robotics and industrial automation equipment for safe operation.
• Performing hazard and risk assessments, and safety analyses of robotics and automation equipment.
• Writing safety requirement specifications, safety management plans, safety concepts, and safety verification/validation plans.
• Safety requirements definition, safety architectural design, safety detailed design.
• Qualitative and quantitative analysis to ensure SILs and Performance Level targets.
• Safety design activities for safe-rated sensing, perception, and diagnostics.
• Apply industry consensus standards for robotic control system development lifecycle.
• Participate in interdisciplinary teams from concept to production including design, prototype, test, validation, and certification.
• Writing or reviewing functional specifications, design verification plans and test procedures.
• Analyze failure modes, effects, and mitigations.
