Job summary

The State of Nevada, through the Nevada Department of Transportation, seeks Highway Maintenance Worker 2 trainees for District II Carson City, Gardnerville, and Spooner. Incumbents perform routine maintenance, winter operations, and emergency support, with progression to higher levels upon certification and performance.

On-site roles require working in various weather conditions. Training is provided; veterans and applicants with relevant experience are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• One year of experience performing basic highway maintenance work.
• Ability to safely operate and maintain routine highway maintenance equipment.
• Knowledge of safety policies and procedures during maintenance operations.

Responsibilities

• Operate and perform preventive maintenance on light, medium and heavy equipment.
• Install and repair pavement markings and signs as required.
• Respond to emergencies and assist in incidents according to ICS protocols.
• Maintain traffic control and direct vehicles in maintenance zones.
• Perform winter operations including snow plow and anti-icing activities.
• Assist in maintaining right-of-way and landscape areas.
• Monitor contract compliance and quality of work by contractors.
