Job summary

The Nevada Department of Transportation is recruiting Highway Maintenance Worker 2 trainees for District II in Carson City, Gardnerville, and Spooner. Incumbents will perform routine maintenance, winter operations, and emergency support while potentially advancing to a Highway Maintenance Worker 3 after certification and satisfactory performance.

These positions are on-site with no remote option, requiring familiarity with a range of heavy equipment and the ability to work in inclement weather.

Qualifications

• One year of experience performing basic highway maintenance.
• Or one year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Worker I in Nevada State service.
• This is a trainee level position with progression to the next level after certification and performance.
• On-site position with no remote work option.

Responsibilities

• Operate and perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on highway maintenance equipment.
• Oversee training and certification for HWY Maint Worker I/II operators.
• Install pavement markings and signs, and repair sign structures.
• Respond to emergencies in accordance with ICS and NDOT procedures.
• Maintain traffic controls and assist in winter and summer maintenance tasks.
• Monitor contract compliance and quality control for maintenance work.
