Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks capable maintenance workers to perform highway upkeep using small equipment, dump trucks, and tools such as chainsaws, rakes, and shovels. You will clear roadways, manage debris, and assist in setting up work zones to warn motorists according to the field guide.

Position may involve emergency or bad weather operations, with extended hours or 12-hour shifts, day or night. A valid CDL and physical endurance are required as part of the role.

Qualifications

• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required.
• CDL within six (6) months of placement.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Operate small equipment and a dump truck for highway maintenance.
• Use chainsaws, rakes and shovels in roadway work.
• Pick up litter, debris, and dead animals along roadways.
• Coordinate placement of traffic control devices to set up work zones per guide.
• Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations; may require extended hours or night shifts.
