Job summary

Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is seeking a Transportation Technician I/II to join the Ogden maintenance team. You will perform general maintenance on highways and drainage features, operating snowplows, spreaders, and other heavy equipment to keep roads safe in all conditions.

The role offers advancement through UDOT’s Transportation Education Program (TEP) and cross-training in construction inspection after about 18 months.

Qualifications

• A Class A CDL or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.
• Report to Ogden Maintenance Station within a 30-minute response time.
• Lift a minimum of 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Maintain a smartphone with data plan (department allowance).
• Commitment to certifications and UDOT TEP program.
• Pre-employment drug test and random drug/alcohol testing after hire.
• Registration with FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance on state routes, highways, and drainage features.
• Operate heavy machinery—including snowplows, salt spreaders, and blowers.
• Operate and maintain heavy equipment such as loaders, backhoes, and graders.
• Use department software to track assets and document work performed by crews and contractors.
• Manage roadside vegetation using various methods, including herbicides.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Cross-train in construction inspection and materials testing after ~18 months.
