Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a maintenance worker to assist in the construction, repair, and preservation of roads and bridges on the state highway system. You will operate trucks and various equipment, perform sign and drainage tasks, and help maintain safety around work zones.

The role involves physical labor, outdoor work in all weather, and possible extended hours during emergencies. A valid license is required, with Class A CDL to be obtained within six months.

Qualifications

• No minimum training or experience requirements.
• Valid driver’s license is required; Class A CDL must be obtained within 6 months.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform varied movements.
• Willingness to work extended hours or shifts during emergencies.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Perform highway maintenance tasks including sign installation and drainage maintenance.
• Operate dump trucks and other heavy equipment as needed.
• Flag traffic and ensure safety of workers and the public.
• Conduct pre-trip inspections and basic equipment maintenance.
• Work in varying weather and extended hours when needed.
