Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks personnel to assist in road and bridge maintenance, including operating dump trucks and other equipment to perform paving, debris removal, and signage work.

Under supervision, you will assist in emergency operations, vegetation management, and traffic control while maintaining safety and compliance with fleet rules and procedures. A valid driver's license is required, with CDL targeted within six months of placement.

Qualifications

• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement.
• There are no minimum training or experience requirements for this classification.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the maintenance of roads and bridges on the state highway system.
• Operate and maintain dump trucks and other heavy equipment.
• Perform vegetation management and sign maintenance to improve visibility.
• Flag traffic during road repairs to protect workers and the public.
• Conduct pre-trip vehicle inspections and document safety compliance.
• Assist in emergency or inclement weather operations and on-call responsibilities.
