South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to support roadside maintenance. The role involves operating tandem dump trucks, belt loaders, rollers, and other medium to heavy equipment within active work zones.

You will assist with ditching, shoulder work, and pipe laying, coordinate with traffic control, and be ready for after-hours and inclement weather shifts. A valid CDL is required within six months.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license; Class A CDL within six months.
• Physical demands include bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to walk extended periods and work near traffic and hazards.

Responsabilités

• Operate tandem dump trucks hauling materials in maintenance and repair operations.
• Operate belt loader and other medium equipment in shoulder and ditching tasks.
• Operate roller for base materials and asphalt as needed.
• Assist heavy equipment operation (backhoe, motor grader) for ditching and pipe laying.
• Flag traffic to protect workers within the work zone.
• Assist with after-hours on-call repairs and inclement weather operations.
