Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a skilled highway maintenance worker to perform a wide range of duties in construction, repair, and preservation of roads and bridges. The role includes operating dump trucks and mid- to large-sized equipment, patching and repairing roadwork, and vegetation management to improve signage visibility.

Expect to assist in snow removal, perform safety inspections, and be available for on-call rotations or extended hours during emergencies.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience or an approved equivalent.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license; Class A CDL required within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operate dump trucks and other heavy equipment used in highway maintenance.
• Patch roadway base and surface, and repair sidewalks and curbs.
• Clean ditches, install pipes, and perform vegetation management for visibility.
• Assist in snow removal and inclement weather operations; on-call rotations.
