Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking personnel to perform a wide variety of maintenance activities for the state highway system, including operating heavy equipment and performing patchwork on roadways and signage installations.

Under general supervision, work involves handling motorized equipment, drainage tasks, vegetation management, and concrete work for curbs, sidewalks, and related structures. CDL required within six months of hire.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of related work experience or equivalent.
• Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Must obtain Class A CDL within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operate motorized equipment used in the construction, repair, and preservation of roads and bridges on the state highway system.
• Perform maintenance tasks including drainage, vegetation management, and right-of-way clearing.
• Patch roadway base and surface failures and remove fallen trees.
• Install, repair, and maintain signs and sign foundations; pour concrete for curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and related work.
