Job summary

State of South Carolina’s Department of Transportation is seeking a reliable labor/maintenance worker to operate various road repair equipment and assist in daily maintenance tasks. You will help with pothole patches, pipe cleaning, and debris removal while supporting traffic control in work zones.

The role may require CDL within six months, lifting up to 50 lbs, and willingness to work extended hours during inclement weather or emergencies in a dynamic field environment.

Qualifications

• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required.
• CDL must be attained within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operate small equipment (dump truck, forklift, tractor with broom, roller <4 tons) for road repairs.
• Use power tools (chain saw) and hand tools for pothole patching and cleaning pipes.
• Assist with traffic control devices and serve as flagger in work zones.
• Perform physical labor (bush trimming, litter pickup, ditch cleaning) and equipment maintenance.
• Support emergency and inclement weather operations (sand/salt, debris removal, signage) and work extended hours if needed.
