Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in Waterford, PA, seeks an Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager with the Department of Transportation to help plan roadway improvements and supervise maintenance activities in Erie County.

You will lead crews, develop maintenance programs, manage resources, and coordinate with local representatives. This full-time Civil Service position offers a 7:00 AM–3:00 PM schedule, no telework, and a salary range of $69,086 to $104,959 annually.

Qualifications

• One year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Coordinator, Roadway Programs Coordinator, or Transportation Construction Manager 1 (Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job titles, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Six years of technical experience in highway maintenance, highway construction, or maintenance of heavy equipment used in highway construction projects; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.
• All positions require possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
• You must meet the PA residency requirement and be able to perform essential job functions.
• You must pass a background investigation.
• Veterans preferences apply under Pennsylvania law.

Responsibilities

• Program Planning: Develop maintenance programs, estimates, and plans for roadway and bridge needs
• Crew Supervision: Guide general and specialized crews in daily maintenance and minor construction work
• Work Evaluation: Inspect projects, review practices, and coordinate contract oversight
• Resource Management: Manage requisitions, monitor permits, and handle materials and equipment requests
• Staff Leadership: Assign tasks, review performance, coach employees, and support training and development
• Community Coordination: Work with local representatives to discuss projects and establish priorities
