Qualifications

  • One year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Coordinator, Roadway Programs Coordinator, or Transportation Construction Manager 1 or equivalent.
  • Six years of technical experience in highway maintenance, highway construction, or heavy equipment maintenance.
  • Equivalent combination of experience and training accepted.

  • Crew Supervision: Direct general and specialized maintenance crews for highway and bridge activities
  • Emergency Response: Manage incident and emergency operations within the assigned region

  • Work Inspection: Conduct inspections of roads, bridges, and tunnels and review work completed by staff
  • Resource Oversight: Review funding, personnel, and material needs and manage purchase orders and requisitions

THE POSITION

As an Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), you will have the exciting opportunity to support roadway operations at the county level. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
  • Project Planning: Develop plans and estimates for roadway maintenance, construction, and seasonal operations
  • Crew Supervision: Direct general and specialized maintenance crews for highway and bridge activities
  • Emergency Response: Manage incident and emergency operations within the assigned region
  • Permit Management: Monitor environmental clearances and permits for construction and maintenance work
  • Work Inspection: Conduct inspections of roads, bridges, and tunnels and review work completed by staff
  • Resource Oversight: Review funding, personnel, and material needs and manage purchase orders and requisitions
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Dual shifts will be in effect from November through March.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position .
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $69,086.00 (before taxes).
Required Experience, Training & Eligibility
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Coordinator, Roadway Programs Coordinator, or Transportation Construction Manager 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Six years of technical experience in highway maintenance, highway construction, or maintenance of heavy equipment used in highway construction projects; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
  • This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
