Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking workers to perform a mix of equipment operation, preventive maintenance, and manual labor for roadway maintenance. The role includes emergency roadway operations as an essential employee and tasks related to snow removal and incident cleanup.

You will operate light, medium, and heavy-duty highway equipment, perform pre-trip inspections, and follow MUTCD guidance for work zones.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions, read and interpret work plans and specifications, and complete accurate work documentation.
• Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and procedures.
• Experience using hand and power tools.

Responsibilities

• Emergency Operations: Operate and maintain light, medium, and heavy-duty highway equipment.
• Emergency Operations: Clear roadways of snow, ice and debris, and provide traffic control.
• Manual Labor: Work with crew to complete projects and maintain roadways.
• Preventive Maintenance: Perform maintenance, repair, and pre-trip inspections of vehicles/equipment.
• Use MUTCD guidance for detours, lane closures, and work zones.
