Job summary

VDOT seeks a maintenance technician to perform equipment operations, preventive maintenance and manual labor for roadway upkeep in Virginia. You will participate in emergency operations, snow removal, and incident cleanup while ensuring safety and following MUTCD standards.

The role requires CDL eligibility within 11 months, strong communication, teamwork and the ability to perform heavy manual labor in varying conditions. On-site work and adherence to DOT/VDOT policies are expected.

Qualifications

• Clear communication in writing and speech is required.
• Must obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor and operate tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, methods and procedures.
• Understand work zone safety and MUTCD guidance.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain highway equipment for maintenance and construction tasks.
• Perform emergency road operations including snow removal and debris clearance.
• Set up and monitor traffic control devices in work zones.
• Follow safety rules and ensure a clean, orderly work environment.
• Inspect vehicles and perform preventive maintenance.
