Job summary

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) seeks a versatile highway maintenance worker to operate light to heavy equipment, perform preventive maintenance and assist with manual tasks on roadways.

You will respond to emergency operations, manage snow removal, set up work zones, and ensure safety using MUTCD standards. Teamwork and reliable physical effort are essential.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months and maintain thereafter.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain light and medium-duty highway equipment and vehicles to perform maintenance and construction related work tasks.
• Prepare and operate equipment for snow and ice removal or other types of emergency operations.
• Install, maintain and remove traffic control devices for work zones using the MUTCD.
• Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs.
• Participate as a working member of the crew to complete projects and accomplish objectives.
• Follow safety regulations and wear PPE.
