Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking skilled equipment operators and crew members for roadway maintenance. You will perform emergency operations, snow removal, and routine maintenance, operating light to heavy highway equipment to support construction and repairs.

Candidates must pass safety rules, obtain CDL/DOT medical cards, and follow MUTCD standards. The role emphasizes teamwork, clear documentation, and strict adherence to OSHA/VOSH regulations in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Clear communication, both oral and written.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions and work plans.
• Commitment to safety with adherence to OSHA & VOSHA rules.
• Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months and maintain thereafter.
• Experience with hand and power tools.
• Familiarity with highway maintenance equipment and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Operate light, medium and heavy-duty highway equipment and vehicles for maintenance and construction tasks.
• Prepare and operate equipment for snow and ice removal and other emergency operations.
• Protect work zones and apply MUTCD guidelines for detours and lane closures.
• Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
• Maintain safety, inventory records, and proper documentation.
• Collaborate with crew to complete projects efficiently and safely.
