Job summary

Eau Claire County is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to support highway construction and maintenance. The role requires operating and transporting heavy machinery, performing safety checks, and assisting with traffic control to keep roadways safe and in good repair.

The position also involves winter maintenance duties, vegetation management, and recordkeeping. A valid Wisconsin Class A CDL with tank endorsement is required within six months, along with a pre-employment physical and background

Qualifications

• Two years of paid, full-time experience operating heavy equipment used for roadway/roadside construction and maintenance.
• Must have a valid Wisconsin Class A Commercial Driver's License without L (air brake) restriction and with N (tank vehicles) endorsement within six months of hire.
• Pre-employment physical exam and criminal background check required.
• Must furnish and maintain personal tool set (hammer, screwdrivers, wrenches) at start of employment.

Responsibilities

• Operate and transport heavy equipment for highway construction and maintenance.
• Perform daily safety and maintenance checks; load/unload materials using trucks and trailers.
• Construct and repair roadways and roadsides; manage vegetation and debris as needed.
• Assist with traffic control setups and ensure safety of workers and traveling public.
