Job summary

Walworth County seeks a full-time Highway Maintenance Worker to keep highways safe and well-maintained. Responsibilities include snow removal, road maintenance, equipment operation, and routine preventive maintenance of county assets.

The role requires a high school diploma and 2–3 years of related experience, plus CDL Class A or B with Tanker Endorsement N or the ability to obtain within six months. Strong driving record and willingness to work long hours are expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; two to three years of relevant experience.
• Ability to calculate figures and apply basic algebra/geometry to area, volume, measures.
• Experience operating heavy equipment such as trucks, dozers, graders is desired.

Responsibilities

• Remove snow and de-ice assigned highways.
• Maintain federal interstates, state highways and county roads.
• Install and remove snow fencing.
• Mark curbs and culverts.
• Patrol for down or missing signs.
• Chip seal and crack fill roads.
• Patch holes in pavement.
• Repair shoulders with gravel.
• Clean drainage structures.
• Trim trees and brush from roadsides.
• Mow shoulder grass and weeds.
• Replace and repair county road signage and markings.
• Remove animals/debris from roadway.
• Report new driveways or utility work on ROW.
• Repair guardrails.
• Operate equipment including forklifts, wheel loaders, rollers and other equipment.
• Conduct preventive maintenance on equipment.
• Maintain and install snow plows/wings and sanders.
• Seasonal activities: crack filling, shouldering, culvert work, concrete repair, brine production, flagging, lane closures.
• Work long hours including evenings, weekends and holidays; overtime as needed; on-call winter schedule.
