Job summary

Kimley-Horn in Richmond, VA is seeking a Civil Engineer with 4+ years of roadway design experience to join the Roadway team on-site. This is not a remote position.

You will collaborate with design professionals to develop detailed road designs, perform feasibility studies, prepare specifications, and support construction with plan reviews, permitting, and progress monitoring. A PE license (or ability to obtain within 12 months) is preferred.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of relevant engineering design experience.
• PE license or ability to obtain within 12 months.
• Proficiency with industry-standard design software (MicroStation, Open Roads, AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
• Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, roadway design standards, and traffic engineering.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the design team to develop detailed roadway designs and ensure compliance with regulations and project specs.
• Assist in development of project plans, feasibility studies, and cost estimates for roadway projects.
• Select materials and prepare engineering specifications for road construction and maintenance.
• Create alignments and geometric designs for roads and intersections with safety in mind.
• Obtain permits and approvals from authorities for roadway projects; ensure compliance with laws.
• Provide technical support during construction, including plan reviews and progress oversight.
• Conduct inspections and quality control to ensure design standards are met.
• Incorporate environmental considerations such as stormwater management into designs.
• Monitor project progress, budgets, and schedules.
• Build meaningful internal and external professional relationships.
