Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an on-site Inspector to join our Transportation Construction team. The role involves performing inspections of traffic control, environmental controls, layout, and materials at project sites in locations including Raleigh, NC.

You will read and interpret plans, assist with daily reports, and ensure procedures meet contract requirements. The position requires a HS diploma, 2 years of related experience, valid driver’s license, and travel up to 40% as project demands shift.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent required.
• Certifications from a State Highway Agency or ACI/NICET in earthwork, asphalt, and concrete if required by the client or jurisdiction.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• 2 years of related experience; equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required; travel frequency varies by duties.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections of traffic control, environmental controls, layout, construction methods and materials under direct supervision.
• Review and recommend acceptance or rejection of daily contractor reports; verify QC procedures and testing per approved plans.
• Review material testing procedures and results for conformance to contract; may sample and test soils, base, concrete and asphalt.
