Job summary

AAA Washington is seeking a Fleet Technician to respond to emergency service requests and perform basic roadside assistance on member vehicles. You will operate towing and light service equipment to help members get back on the road, while representing AAA Washington in a professional manner.

The role requires 3+ years in automotive or customer service, a valid WA/ID driver’s license, and ability to pass DOT physical and drug screenings.

Qualifications

  • Must pass the DOT physical requirement and maintain it.
  • Pre-employment, post-accident, and random drug screenings as per policy.
  • 3+ years’ experience in automotive and/or customer service.
  • 1+ year demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be at least 21 years old to meet insurance and driver eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Provide emergency mechanical assistance on member vehicles (jump-starts, batteries, tire changes, gasoline delivery, lock-out services).
  • Tow vehicles to designated locations following safety and towing procedures.
  • Be the friendly face of AAA Washington to members in need of roadside service.
  • Assist members and other departments with service as needed.
  • Advise supervisor on vehicle or operational issues.
  • Perform minor repairs on fleet vehicles.
  • Contribute to a positive team dynamic and uphold AAA’s values.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Responsible for providing emergency mechanical assistance on member vehicles, such as jump-starts, battery testing, selling and installation of batteries, tire changes, delivering gasoline, and lock-out services.
  • Responsible for towing vehicles to specified location following correct safety and towing procedures.
  • Be the “face” of AAAWA to our members who are stranded and in need of emergency roadside service.
  • Provide customer service to members and other departments as needed.
  • Advise manager of any vehicle or operational issues.
  • Perform minor vehicle repairs on fleet vehicles.
  • Contributes to a positive team dynamic through respectful interactions, positive contributions, and active collaboration to achieve department and organizational goals.
  • Incorporates AAA’s vision, mission and values in day-to-day activities and behaviors; guides and motivates others to remain committed to AAA’s vision mission and values.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be able to pass and maintain DOT physical requirements test
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment, post-accident, and random drug screenings in accordance with company policy
  • 3+ years’ work experience in automotive and/or customer service field
  • 1+ years’ of demonstrated mechanical aptitude and mechanical reasoning
  • Must be at least 21 years of age to meet company insurance and driver eligibility requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education and training in batteries, vehicle lockouts, tire changing, and roadside safety
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid Washington State or Idaho State driver’s license
  • Technical school certification preferred
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to operate fleet vehicles, light service vehicles, passenger vehicles, and towing equipment, with both automatic and manual transmissions.
  • Must have mechanical knowledge and the ability to understand and diagnose a variety of automotive systems.
  • Competent in MS Office and navigating the internet.
  • Ability to address multiple demands and competing priorities in a changing environment.
  • Skilled at working independently; able to prioritize and complete assignments with minimal direction.
  • Skilled in handling urgent situations professionally and willing to take extra measures when solving problems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Salary
  • Hiring Range: $25.30 - $30.35 per hour
  • Discretionary bonus based on company performance

Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • This position is deemed to be a safety-sensitive position.
  • The work schedule for this position is 4, 10-hour shifts with unscheduled overtime for a total of 40 hours a week.
  • Work outside in all locations and weather conditions.
  • Regularly balances, bends, kneels, and lifts up to 50 pounds, occasionally up to 75 pounds.
  • The physical environment is typical of a standard mechanic shop space, in parking lots and on the side of the roads and freeways. It requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials. May work around moving objects or vehicles and will need to be aware of surroundings for personal safety.
