Job summary

AAA Washington is seeking a Fleet Technician to respond to emergency service requests and provide roadside assistance on member vehicles. The role supports towing and light service actions from the fleet shop in SoDo, Seattle, with a strong emphasis on safety and customer service.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Must pass and maintain DOT physical requirements test.
  • 3+ years’ work experience in automotive and/or customer service.
  • 1+ years’ demonstrated mechanical aptitude and mechanical reasoning.
  • Meet minimum age requirement for insurability.

Responsibilities

  • Provide emergency mechanical assistance on member vehicles (jump-starts, battery tests, batteries, tire changes, fuel deliveries, lock-outs, minor repairs).
  • Tow vehicles to specified locations following safety procedures.
  • Be the face of AAA Washington to members in need of emergency roadside service.
  • Diagnose electrical, fuel, or other vehicle systems.
  • Provide customer service to members and other departments as needed.
  • Notify manager of vehicle or operational issues.
  • Perform minor vehicle repairs on fleet vehicles.
  • Contribute to a positive team dynamic and AAA’s vision and values.

FLEET TECHNICIAN

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

This role is responsible for responding to emergency service requests, identifying mechanical issues and providing applicable roadside assistance on member vehicles so that the member can get on their way. Services are provided through towing and light service vehicles.

This person will be working from our Fleet shop in SoDo, Downtown Seattle. Please make sure you are comfortable with this commute.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for providing emergency mechanical assistance on member vehicles, such as jump-starts, battery testing, selling and installation of batteries, tire changes, delivering gasoline, lock-out services, and minor vehicle repairs as permissible.

  • Responsible for towing vehicles to specified location following correct safety and towing procedures.

  • Be the “face” of AAAWA to our members who are stranded and in need of emergency roadside service.

  • Perform electrical, fuel or other system diagnosis on vehicles.

  • Provide customer service to members and other departments as needed.

  • Advise manager of any vehicle or operational issues.

  • Perform minor vehicle repairs on fleet vehicles.

  • Contributes to a positive team dynamic through respectful interactions, positive contributions, and active collaboration to achieve department and organizational goals.

  • Incorporates AAA’s vision, mission and values in day-to-day activities and behaviors; guides and motivates others to remain committed to AAA’s vision mission and values.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or GED

  • Must be able to pass and maintain DOT physical requirements test

  • 3+ years’ work experience in automotive and/or customer service field

  • 1+ years’ of demonstrated mechanical aptitude and mechanical reasoning

  • Meet minimum age requirement for insurability

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education and training in batteries, vehicle lockouts, tire changing, and roadside safety

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license

  • Technical school certification preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to operate fleet vehicles, light service vehicles, passenger vehicles, and towing equipment, with both automatic and manual transmissions.

  • Must have mechanical knowledge and the ability to understand and diagnose a variety of automotive systems

  • Competent in MS Office and navigating the internet.

  • Ability to address multiple demands and competing priorities in a changing environment.

  • Skilled at working independently; able to prioritize and complete assignments with minimal direction.

  • Skilled in handling urgent situations professionally and willing to take extra measures when solving problems.

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

SALARY:
  • Hiring Range: $25.30 – $30.35 per hour

You will also receive the opportunity to earn a discretionary bonus based on company performance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • This position is deemed to be a safety-sensitive position.

  • The work schedule for this position is 10-hour shifts with unscheduled overtime

  • Work outside in all locations and weather conditions.

  • Regularly balances, bends, kneels, and lifts up to 50 pounds, occasionally up to 75 pounds.

  • The physical environment is typical of a standard mechanic shop space, in parking lots and on the side of the roads and freeways. It requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials. May work around moving objects or vehicles and will need to be aware of surroundings for personal safety.
