Job summary

Salt Lake County is seeking a Maintenance Worker to perform semi-skilled and skilled road and drainage maintenance, snow removal, and related tasks. The role requires CDL, DOT card, flagging and forklift certification, and the ability to work in demanding conditions.

Responsibilities include operating trucks and loaders, weed spraying, irrigation work, traffic setup, and routine repairs. You will follow safety rules and collaborate with departments while meeting physical requirements.

Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of related experience, with one (1) year as a Maintenance Worker II with Salt Lake County.
  • A valid Driver’s License accepted by the State of Utah is required at the time of hire, in order to operate a county vehicle.
  • Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement at the time of hire.
  • Must possess a current Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Card at the time of hire.
  • Must attend flagging training and certify within sixty (60) days and recertify every two (2) years.
  • Must attend a Defensive Driving course within the first two (2) weeks of hire and recertify as required by county policy.
  • Must attend and be forklift certified within four (4) months (120 days) of hire.
  • Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting in this position. Will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing. May be subject to post accident and reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of small hand tools & Equipment.
  • Conducts Weed spraying (backpack, ATV, and truck mount).
  • Mixing chemicals and spraying roadsides, canals, and county owned properties.
  • May perform as the lead for the crew, assigning work as needed.
  • Tractor mowing of canals, canyons, roadside shoulders, and county owned properties.
  • Performs Lawn mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, weeding, and tree trimming.
  • Maintains and repairs irrigation systems.
  • Sets up traffic warning signs, traffic cones, barricades, and flags traffic.
  • Operates heavy equipment, Loader, Backhoe, Water Truck.
  • Perform basic Arborist functions.
  • Performs crack sealing (winter months).
  • Snow removal sidewalks parking lots and roads.
  • Provides code enforcement mowing of vacant properties.
  • Maintains tools and equipment by keeping them clean, repaired, and stored securely when not in use; performs minor repairs.
  • Complies with OSHA and/or MUTCD safety rules and regulations.
