Job summary

Salt Lake County is seeking a Maintenance Worker to perform semi-skilled and skilled maintenance on roads, drainage structures, and canals. You will assist with snow removal and some landscaping, using a range of tools and heavy equipment.

The role requires CDL with tanker endorsement, DOT medical card, flagging and forklift certifications, and strict safety compliance. Applicants should be prepared for physical labor year-round and periodic emergency call-ins.

Qualifications

  • Two years of related experience, with one year as a Maintenance Worker II with Salt Lake County.
  • A valid driver’s license to operate a county vehicle is required at hire.
  • Must possess a Class A CDL with tanker endorsement at hire.
  • Must have a current DOT Medical Card at hire.
  • Must complete flagging training within 60 days and recertify every two years.
  • Defensive Driving training within two weeks of hire and recertification as required.
  • Forklift certification within four months of hire.
  • Must pass a mandatory drug test and be subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of small hand tools and equipment.
  • Conduct weed spraying on roadsides, canals, and county properties.
  • Mix chemicals and spray roadsides and waterways as needed.
  • May lead the crew and assign work.
  • Operate heavy equipment including loader, backhoe, and water truck.
  • Perform basic arborist functions and seasonal crack sealing.
  • Snow removal for sidewalks, parking lots, and roads.
