Job summary

King County Road Services Division is seeking a Road Maintenance Worker to support roadway construction, repair, and maintenance across unincorporated areas. You will help ensure public safety through proper traffic control, equipment operation, and seasonal tasks while collaborating with a team.

The ideal candidate has hands-on road maintenance experience, strong safety awareness, and is able to perform physically demanding tasks outdoors in varying weather.

Qualifications

  • Experience in road maintenance or heavy manual labor.
  • Traffic control knowledge and ability to set up control measures.
  • Ability to read maps and basic construction blueprints.
  • Safe operation of hand tools and construction equipment.
  • Commitment to safety protocols and teamwork.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Valid Washington driver’s license; flagging cert and CPR/First Aid or ability to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Provide traffic control on streets and highways, including flagging and signage.
  • Operate vehicles up to 26,000 lbs GVW.
  • Prepare surfaces for asphalt overlay and shoulder maintenance.
  • Complete drainage repairs and install guardrails as needed.
  • Read maps/blueprints and support drainage projects.
  • Shovel, rake, cut brush, and perform snow/ice removal as required.
  • Assist in operation of specialized equipment and safety procedures.
