Job summary

Salt Lake County is seeking a Road Maintenance Worker I/II to perform semi-skilled maintenance on highways and storm drains, assist with snow removal, and support landscaping tasks. The role requires CDL, DOT card, flagging and defensive driving certifications, and adherence to safety rules.

Eligible candidates will be evaluated for required training, including forklift certification within 4 months and drug testing. The job offers competitive pay DOE and full benefits as listed by the county.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license accepted by Utah at hire.
  • Must obtain Class B CDL within 60 days of hire.
  • Must possess a current DOT Medical Card at hire or obtain within 30 days.
  • Flagging training and certification within 60 days; recertify every 2 years.
  • Defensive Driving course within 2 weeks of hire and recertify as required.
  • Forklift certification within 4 months (120 days) of hire.
  • Must pass a mandatory drug test before starting; random testing may apply.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in crack sealing, asphalt patching, mill and overlay, slurry prep and resurfacing.
  • Prepare roadways for asphalt by grading and compacting road base; spread and compact asphalt.
  • Assist with concrete installation and removal; assist in floating and finishing concrete.
  • Set up traffic signs, cones, barricades, and flag traffic.
  • Operate small hand tools and equipment.
  • Removes snow from roadways.
  • May operate heavy equipment including 10-wheeler, Bobtail Truck and Street Sweeper.
  • Maintain tools and equipment; perform minor repairs.
  • Comply with OSHA and MUTCD safety rules and regulations.
