Full time | Evening/Night shift | Facility:1906 Belleview Ave SE, Roanoke (Virginia)

Overview

12 bed ICU specializing in trauma patients with alternate use as neuro and general surgery patients. Registered nurse expected to consistently deliver the best in care and customer service, demonstrating respect, dignity, kindness and empathy for patients, families, visitors and colleagues. As part of the health care team, RNs assume primary accountability for nursing coordination and provision of individualized care for patients of all ages.

Responsibilities

• Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care to achieve optimum outcomes for patients of all ages.
• Completes age‑specific admission and ongoing assessments, documents them, and uses findings to develop a plan of care.
• Collaborates with health care team, patients and family to develop, implement and evaluate an interdisciplinary, age‑specific plan of care.
• Revises the plan according to changes in patient status.
• Accurately administers and documents treatments and medications using automated computers, including electronic medical records.
• Identifies patient/family educational needs, integrates them into the plan of care, and documents implementation.
• Contributes to performance‑improvement activities and consistently demonstrates patient‑advocacy, protection of patient rights and psychological/social/cultural support.
• Acts as a role model for clinical practice to coworkers, students and physicians.
• Manages resources, establishes priorities and modifies the environment to meet patient‑care needs.
• Uses problem‑solving techniques to resolve patient and personnel situations.
• Plays a role in orienting new employees, providing feedback, and participating in unit, hospital and system activities to support staff decision‑making.
• Assists with education activities for the unit/department.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a school of professional nursing of an accredited college or a program eligible to sit for the VA licensure exam.
• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Virginia or eligible to obtain Virginia RN licensure.
• Consistent AHA BLS‑HCP; may be required to obtain or maintain BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP based on unit.
• Computer skills required for EPIC electronic medical record.
• Ability to demonstrate critical thinking, delegation, teamwork and strong communication skills.
