Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, VA, is seeking an RN for Neuro Trauma Surgical (Open) with a sign-on bonus. The role centers on skilled nursing coordination, compassionate patient care, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team in a 28-bed unit focused on trauma, neurosurgery, urology, and general surgery.

RN – Neuro Trauma Surgical (Open). Sign on Bonus available. The unit is a 28 bed Medical/Surgical unit that primarily handles Trauma/Neurosurgery, Urology, and General surgery patients. A dedicated Neurosurgical ACP is present daily, while most other services are secondary or alternate. As a registered nurse you deliver exceptional care, customer service, respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy to patients, families, and colleagues.

As part of the health care team, RNs assume primary accountability for nursing coordination and provision of individualized care for patients of all ages. The registered nurse also utilizes delegation and critical thinking skills to provide quality service through a team‑oriented, collaborative approach to patient care. The RN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care in order to achieve optimum patient outcomes for patients of all ages as appropriate to the service area. Age‑specific admission and ongoing assessments are completed, documented and used to develop a plan of care. The RN collaborates with members of the health care team, patient, and family to develop, implement, and evaluate an age‑specific interdisciplinary plan of care. Plans are revised according to changes in patient status. Treatments and medications for patients of all ages are accurately administered and documented utilizing automated computer systems, including electronic medical records. Patient/family (caregiver) educational needs are identified in a timely manner, incorporated into the plan of care, implemented and documented appropriately. The RN contributes to Carilion Clinic’s performance improvement activities and consistently demonstrates the role of patient advocate, protector of patient’s rights, and provider of psychological, social, and cultural support. The RN applies knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients served. The RN determines and performs within clinical, leadership, and/or educational pathways to support (direct/indirect) evidence‑based, quality patient care service and performance improvement. The RN exhibits clinical expertise in rapidly changing circumstances and plans strategies to reduce length of stay, turnaround time, resource consumption, and improve patient outcomes. The RN functions as a role model for clinical practice to coworkers, students, and physicians. The RN manages resources, establishes priorities, and modifies the environment to meet patient care needs. The RN completes manager/director predetermined projects within specified time frame and according to pre‑established guidelines. The RN uses problem‑solving methods to facilitate resolution to patient and personnel situations that present in the work area. The RN takes an active role in the orientation of new employees, provides feedback to staff using appropriate communication and documentation, and provides input into practice, environment, and work issues by participating on unit, hospital, and/or system activities which facilitate staff participation and decision making. The RN assists with providing education activities for the unit/department.
Compensation Range: $33.52 - $50.28 per hour. Pay is based on qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience and does not include benefits or pension plan.
